    Job Overview

    The University of the Free State is seeking a Sport Grounds General Worker to assist with the maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of sports grounds and designated areas.

    The successful candidate will operate gardening equipment and machinery, maintain lawns and athletic fields, perform irrigation and general maintenance duties, and ensure that safety and environmental procedures are followed.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Clean and maintain designated areas.
    • Collect and dispose of litter.
    • Take stock of cleaning and maintenance materials.
    • Operate hand and power tools such as brush cutters, blowers, push mowers and precision cutters.
    • Perform irrigation maintenance when required.
    • Mark sports fields and sporting areas.
    • Trim trees and mow, rake and maintain lawns and athletic fields.
    • Assist with general maintenance activities.
    • Operate a motor vehicle or tractor when required.
    • Lift and move heavy objects when necessary.
    • Apply or spray fertiliser and pesticides according to instructions.
    • Inspect and properly maintain equipment and supplies.
    • Follow safety procedures and promote workplace safety.
    • Attend scheduled team meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 10 on NQF Level 2 (proof must be attached).
    • Experience related to the duties and responsibilities.
    • Code EB/B driver’s licence (copy must be attached).

    Recommended Requirements

    • At least 1 year’s relevant experience.
    • Experience operating gardening equipment and machinery.
    • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
