Job Purpose
The Quality Controller is responsible for ensuring that all used vehicles meet the company’s quality, safety, and presentation standards before being made available for sale or delivery. The role involves conducting detailed vehicle inspections, managing the Recon Centre, coordinating repairs and maintenance activities, and leading support staff to ensure operational efficiency and quality compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspections
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of used vehicles.
- Assess vehicles for mechanical defects, faults, and operational issues.
- Inspect vehicle bodywork, paintwork, interior condition, and overall presentation.
- Identify damage, wear and tear, and quality concerns.
- Verify vehicle roadworthiness and compliance with company standards.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure all vehicles meet established quality standards.
- Verify compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Implement quality control procedures and inspection standards.
- Monitor vehicle quality throughout the reconditioning process.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed before vehicle release.
Cosmetic Evaluation
- Assess vehicle appearance and presentation.
- Evaluate:
- Paint condition
- Bodywork quality
- Interior cleanliness and condition
- Exterior appearance
- Ensure vehicles meet showroom-ready standards.
Recon Centre Management
- Manage and oversee daily Recon Centre operations.
- Ensure vehicles move efficiently through the reconditioning process.
- Monitor workflow and turnaround times.
- Improve operational efficiency within the Recon Centre.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout vehicle preparation.
Repairs and Maintenance Coordination
- Work closely with workshop and service departments.
- Schedule and oversee repairs identified during inspections.
- Monitor repair quality and completion.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed according to standards.
- Verify repairs before approving vehicles for release.
Team Leadership and Staff Management
- Supervise support staff and operational teams.
- Train and mentor employees on quality standards and inspection procedures.
- Improve team productivity and operational efficiency.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Set performance expectations and monitor results.
Reporting and Administration
- Maintain accurate inspection records and reports.
- Document defects, repairs, and quality findings.
- Provide management with quality-related updates and reports.
- Ensure accurate system updates and documentation.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Valid Driver’s Licence.
- Own reliable transport.
Advantageous Qualifications
- Diploma in:

- Related field
Experience
- 5 years’ experience within the motor industry workshop environment (advantageous).
- Experience in vehicle inspections, diagnostics, quality control, or reconditioning operations.
