Job Overview
The Deputy Director: Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics is a senior managerial position responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and operational oversight of orthotic and prosthetic services within the Free State Department of Health. The role ensures that orthotic and prosthetic services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with clinical standards and policies.
The Deputy Director plays a key role in improving service delivery, strengthening clinical governance, and coordinating stakeholder engagement across the health sector and academic institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Governance & Service Oversight

Ensure comprehensive clinical governance of orthotic and prosthetic services across the province.

Monitor service quality, patient safety, and compliance with clinical standards.

Promote continuous quality improvement within the orthotics and prosthetics environment.
Policy & Stakeholder Coordination

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including institutions of higher learning and professional bodies.

Support policy development and implementation in line with orthotic and prosthetic service needs.

Participate in policy-making processes and provide technical input.
Health Information & Performance Management

Utilise health information technology and health information systems to enhance service delivery and data management.

Facilitate performance information management, reporting, and accountability.

Ensure accurate monitoring and reporting of service performance indicators.
Resource Management

Manage human, financial, and physical resources within the orthotic and prosthetic service.

Ensure efficient allocation and utilisation of resources.

Promote accountability and good governance in resource management.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
-
Matric.
-
National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics, recognised by SAQA.
-
Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Orthotist/Prosthetist (2025/2026).
Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an orthotic and prosthetic environment.

At least 3 years’ management experience at a supervisory or management level in Orthotics & Prosthetics.
Mandatory Requirements

Computer literacy (Microsoft Office package).

Valid driver’s licence.
Knowledge & Skills

Policy-making process and orthotic/prosthetic policy framework.

Public Service Regulations (2016) and PFMA.
-
Strong planning, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
