JOB DESCRIPTION
This project involves repairing a leaking roof and cleaning gutters at a South African Police Service facility in Welkom.
The purpose is to:
- Stop roof leaks affecting the building
- Prevent water damage through proper drainage
- Restore structural integrity of the roof system
- Ensure long-term maintenance of gutters and downpipes
RESPONSIBILITIES / SCOPE OF WORK
1. Roof Repairs
- Identify and repair all leaking areas on the roof
- Fix damaged roofing materials, sheets, or waterproofing layers
- Ensure full sealing of leak points
- Restore roof to watertight condition
2. Gutter Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean all gutters along the building perimeter
- Remove debris, blockages, and sediment buildup
- Ensure proper water flow through gutters and downpipes
- Prevent future overflow or water damage
3. Site Maintenance Duties
- Provide labour, tools, and equipment for roof access
- Ensure safe working conditions (especially at height)
- Dispose of waste materials properly
- Maintain cleanliness of site during and after work
4. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all repair work meets building standards
- Use proper roofing and waterproofing materials
- Deliver durable and weather-resistant repairs
- Follow all safety and public building regulations
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
The contractor must:
- Hold CIDB 1 GB or 1 SN (or higher) registration
- Have proven experience in roofing repairs and gutter maintenance
- Be capable of working on government / institutional buildings
- Demonstrate ability to handle leak detection and repair work
- Provide skilled roofing technicians and supervisors
- Submit a work programme and execution plan
- Comply with safety, environmental, and construction standards
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The service provider must have:
- Experience in roof repair projects (5–10 years preferred)
- Experience in gutter cleaning and stormwater systems
- Qualified personnel:
- Roof repair technicians
- Site supervisor / foreman
- Safety-compliant workers for height work
- Ability to:
- Diagnose roofing defects
- Perform waterproof sealing and patch repairs
- Work safely at height
- Knowledge of:
- Construction safety regulations
- Waterproofing methods
- Government facility standards
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Bidders must provide:
- Proof of registration on Central Supplier Database (CSD)
- Valid BBBEE certificate or sworn affidavit
- CIDB registration (1 GB / 1 SN or higher)
- Compliance with health & safety regulations
- Security clearance compliance (if required)
- Ability to submit progress reports and documentation
