    Job Overview

    The Technical Specialist is responsible for providing technical support within the regional fleet operations to ensure that all client operational requirements are met. The role focuses on maintaining fleet performance, monitoring maintenance activities, and supporting both the Maintenance Monitoring Unit (MMU) and Vehicle Trade Centre (VTC) with technical decision-making.

    The successful candidate will oversee fleet maintenance, inspect vehicles before delivery to clients, manage repair and service activities, and coordinate with suppliers and customers to ensure vehicles meet contractual standards. The position requires strong technical knowledge of vehicles, analytical ability, and the capacity to manage multiple operational tasks within a fast-paced fleet environment.

    Job Description

    The Technical Specialist ensures efficient technical management of fleet vehicles throughout their lifecycle—from delivery and maintenance to end-of-contract inspections—while maintaining high levels of service and compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    Customer Support

    • Liaise with customers regarding technical queries, concerns, or issues.

    • Work with internal departments and suppliers to improve customer satisfaction and service delivery.

    Fleet Maintenance & Operations

    • Inspect new vehicles before delivery to ensure compliance with specifications.

    • Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure servicing is completed according to contractual requirements.

    • Monitor vehicle availability and coordinate scheduled or unscheduled repairs.

    • Follow up on accident repairs and ensure work meets required quality standards.

    • Manage the vehicle end-of-contract process and compile technical reports on vehicle condition and repair costs.

    Supplier & Service Provider Management

    • Identify and engage suitable service providers within the region.

    • Manage third-party maintenance contracts.

    • Review supplier quotations and negotiate labour rates and parts pricing.

    • Monitor service quality, timelines, and workmanship of suppliers.

    • Conduct inspections at service providers to ensure repairs are completed correctly and on time.

    Documentation & Record Keeping

    • Maintain accurate documentation including vehicle inspections, repair records, and service reports.

    • Ensure all technical documentation and certificates are properly recorded and filed.

    Compliance & Risk Management

    • Review repair invoices and verify work completed by suppliers.

    • Ensure supplier selection complies with Retail Motor Industry (RMI) guidelines.

    • Conduct fleet audits and inspections to maintain quality control.

    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and operational procedures.

    Reporting & Data Analysis

    • Prepare operational and technical reports on vehicle breakdowns, inspections, and fleet performance.

    • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly technical reports.

    • Monitor and record operational data for fleet equipment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education

    • Matric (Grade 12).

    • Diploma in Fleet Management or Road Transport Management (preferred), or

    • Tertiary qualification in Fleet or Mechanical fields (Diesel, Petrol, or Auto Electrical).

    Experience

    • 3–5 years of experience in the fleet industry, preferably in a leasing environment.

    • Proven technical experience working with vehicle fleets.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong technical knowledge of vehicles.

    • Negotiation and supplier management skills.

    • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.

    • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

    • Computer literacy.

    • Ability to manage pressure and meet deadlines.

    • Understanding of fleet management legislation, policies, and procedures.
