Job Overview
The Department of Home Affairs is seeking an experienced and dynamic Local Office Manager to lead operations at its Bloemfontein Large Office. This senior management role is responsible for overseeing service delivery, managing civic and immigration operations, driving digital transformation initiatives, and ensuring the efficient use of human, financial, and physical resources.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, ensure compliance with government legislation and departmental policies, and promote excellent customer service while achieving the Department’s operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing the overall operations and performance of the Local Office in line with agreed service delivery standards.
- Providing operational advice and guidance on Departmental services.
- Overseeing the delivery of secure enabling documents, including:
- Birth certificates.
- Marriage certificates.
- Death certificates.
- Citizenship services.
- Passports.
- Travel documents.
- Ensuring the effective implementation of Government’s Programme of Action (POA).
- Managing and monitoring Immigration Inspectorate operations.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders and representing the Local Office at various forums.
- Driving strategic objectives, innovation, digital transformation, and case management solutions.
- Coordinating and monitoring implementation of the Local Office operational plan.
- Implementing governance frameworks, policies, procedures, and risk management processes.
- Managing human resources, finances, assets, and physical resources effectively.
- Coaching and mentoring employees while ensuring compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6), recognised by SAQA, in one of the following fields:
- Public Management
- Public Administration
- Operations Management
- Business Management
- Management
- Administration
- Law
- Social Science
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience at Junior Management or Assistant Director level in operations within a client or customer service environment.
- Experience in Civic Services or Immigration Operations will be an added advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours when required.
