Job Description
The Department of Social Work is seeking qualified Social Workers to facilitate practical skills training for small groups of students. The role focuses on helping students apply social work theories in practical settings and preparing them for fieldwork experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate skills-training sessions for groups of 15–20 students.
- Prepare for facilitation sessions according to the relevant study guides.
- Assess and mark assigned student work, including:
- Oral assessments
- Reports and assignments
- Maintain accurate student assessment and performance records.
- Organise and conduct oral assessments.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.
- Collaborate with the Field Instruction Coordinator and departmental staff.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor of Social Sciences qualification on NQF Level 8.
- Active registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Worker (proof required).
- At least three (3) years’ experience working as a Social Worker.
- Knowledge of social work supervision models, including:
- Process Model
- Developmental Perspective
- Availability to assist during normal working hours.
- Written permission from their current employer or Head of Department to perform additional work (proof required).

Preference may be given to candidates with:
- A passion for social work education.
- Strong ethical and professional conduct.
- Experience in student facilitation or supervision.
- Knowledge of theories taught within the UFS Department of Social Work.
Contract Period
- February to October (10 months).
- Contract is renewable annually based on performance and departmental requirements.
