Job Description
As a Psychologist, you will deliver psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions to patients while also participating in training and research activities.
You will work across different units within the psychiatric complex, ensuring high-quality mental healthcare services. The role also involves supervising students, contributing to academic research, and applying mental health legislation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services
Provide psychological assessments and therapy
Deliver mental health services across different units
Ensure compassionate, high-quality patient care
Teaching & Training
Train undergraduate and postgraduate students
Support medical and clinical psychology education programs
Research & Supervision
Supervise academic research projects
Contribute to scientific research and publications
Present research at conferences (local and international)
Service Delivery & Quality
Ensure effective psychological services across the province
Apply mental health legislation and clinical guidelines
Maintain high standards of care in the Clinical Psychology Division
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
Master’s degree in Psychology
Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Psychologist (any category)
Valid HPCSA registration for 2026/2027
Experience
Grade 1: No experience required
Grade 2: Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Psychologist
Knowledge & Skills
Experience in:
Tertiary psychiatric hospital settings
Training undergraduate and postgraduate students
Knowledge of:
Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
Mental health legislation
Research methodologies
Evidence of:
Research publications (local/international journals)
Conference presentations
Understanding of:
Free State Psychiatric model
