    • Stipend: R6 000 per month

    Job Purpose

    To provide practical, hands-on experience in animal health and welfare within a professional research and veterinary care environment. The internship aims to develop technical and clinical competencies through exposure to animal handling, clinical procedures, laboratory work, and data management under the supervision of experienced veterinarians and animal health professionals.

    Minimum Qualification and Requirements

    • Education: National Diploma in one of the following fields:

      • Veterinary Technology

      • Animal Health

      • Veterinary Nursing

      • Laboratory Animal Technology

    • Registration: Must be registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).

    • Employment Status: Applicants must be unemployed at the time of application.

    • Driver’s Licence: A valid driver’s licence is required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

    • Computer literacy (MS Office proficiency).

    • Proficiency in English (both verbal and written).

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Good administrative ability and attention to detail.

    • Passion for animal care and welfare.

    • Ability to work in a clinical or laboratory setting.

    • Strong sense of responsibility, accuracy, and teamwork.

    Core Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide basic animal care including feeding, monitoring, and handling.

    • Interact, socialise, and handle animals to ensure their comfort and wellbeing.

    • Provide clinical assistance to veterinarians during examinations and treatments.

    • Conduct observations and health assessments of animals.

    • Assist with therapy, treatment, and rehabilitation of animals to maintain good health.

    • Collect specimens (e.g., blood, urine, faecal samples, skin scrapings) for laboratory analysis.

    • Perform basic laboratory procedures, including blood smear preparation and sample management.

    • Ensure accurate and safe movement of animals as per facility protocols.

    • Record and manage raw data accurately to support research and animal health records.

    • Adhere to all standard operating procedures, ethical standards, and animal welfare regulations.
