      Package: 70% basic salary, 30% flexible portion (Medical Aid optional)

    Job Overview

    The Medical Sub-Specialist in Paediatric Neurology provides specialised diagnostic and therapeutic care for children with neurological conditions. The role includes clinical care, teaching, research, departmental leadership, and contribution to quality improvement and academic program development.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide specialised diagnostic and therapeutic services in Paediatric Neurology

    • Manage complex and referred cases beyond general practice

    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans

    • Participate in ward rounds, outpatient consultations, and evidence-based practice

    • Conduct clinical audits, mortality/morbidity reviews, and monitor clinical effectiveness indicators

    • Teach and mentor undergraduate medical students, postgraduate registrars, and subspecialty fellows

    • Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials, and bedside teaching sessions

    • Supervise research projects and mentor junior doctors in research and professional development

    • Participate in curriculum design, evaluation, and academic program planning

    • Conduct and publish original research; apply for funding; collaborate nationally and internationally

    • Promote evidence-based medicine and research culture among trainees and colleagues

    • Participate in departmental meetings, hospital committees, and policy development

    • May hold leadership roles such as Head of Paediatric Neurology, Clinical Supervisor, or Research Coordinator

    Minimum Requirements

    • Matric (Grade 12)

    • Qualification allowing registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Paediatrics (Paediatric Neurology)

    • Current HPCSA registration for 2026/2027

    • Certified service record as a Medical Specialist

    • South African citizen or permanent resident

    Experience Required

    • Grade 1: No post-registration experience required

    • Grade 2: Minimum 5 years post-registration experience

    • Grade 3: Minimum 10 years post-registration experience

    • Experience in clinical sub-specialty care services in Paediatric Neurology

    • Academic teaching and departmental leadership experience

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of public service legislation, policies, and procedures

    • Strong clinical, teaching, and research skills

    • Leadership and administrative competence

    • Excellent time management, written and verbal communication, and report writing skills
