    Job Overview:

    Job Title: Medical Officer Grade 1–3
    Company: Department of Health – Forensic Pathology Services
    Location: Bethlehem Mortuary and Botshabelo Mortuary, Free State, South Africa
    Employment Type: Full-time

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage Forensic Medico-Legal death investigations within designated mortuaries

    • Perform autopsies and compile medico-legal reports

    • Participate in stakeholder meetings and interdisciplinary collaborations

    • Assist in developing and implementing operational plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

    • Ensure quality assurance in forensic pathology service delivery

    Qualifications:

    • Matric (Senior Certificate)

    • MBChB degree, allowing registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

    • Current HPCSA registration (2025/2026)

    • Valid driver’s license and computer literacy

    • Proof of relevant experience (endorsed by HR)

    • For Grade 1: No experience required post-registration

    • For Grade 2: Minimum 5 years post-registration experience (6 for foreign-qualified not required to do Community Service)

    • For Grade 3: Minimum 10 years post-registration experience (11 for foreign-qualified not required to do Community Service)

    • Postgraduate qualification in Forensic Pathology is an added advantage

    Benefits:

    • Competitive salary based on grade:

      • Grade 1: R1,001,349 – R1,078,116 p.a.

      • Grade 2: R1,142,553 – R1,247,202 p.a.

      • Grade 3: R1,322,352 – R1,647,630 p.a.

    • 13th cheque
