    The Programme Director will provide academic and operational leadership for the Communication Science programmes. This role involves curriculum design and management, stakeholder engagement, financial and resource oversight, leadership in transformation initiatives, and ensuring high-quality, research-informed teaching and scholarship. The Director will also play a significant role in marketing and promoting the programmes.

    Eligibility

    Only permanent academic staff from UFS Department of Communication Science are eligible to apply.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Design and redesign curricula in consultation with stakeholders.

    • Develop new learning programmes aligned with industry needs.

    • Develop and manage operational plans for the programmes.

    • Lead and motivate programme staff to achieve institutional transformation goals.

    • Manage financial aspects including budgeting, planning, allocation, and control.

    • Ensure programme activities comply with university governance, policies, and regulations.

    • Facilitate research-informed, practice-based teaching and learning.

    • Ensure academic quality and manage curriculum processes.

    • Oversee academic administration and quality assurance, particularly regarding technology and innovation.

    • Conduct personal research and provide academic advising.

    • Participate in faculty marketing efforts, including creating marketing materials and attending roadshows/open days.

    • Liaise with industry, professional bodies, and private sector for curriculum relevance and needs assessment.

    Inherent Job Requirements

    • PhD (NQF Level 10) in Communication Science or a related field.

    • Must be a full-time, permanent academic staff member in the Department of Communication Science at UFS.

    Recommendations

    • Experience in programme development and academic advisory services is an advantage.

    Allowance

    A Programme Director allowance will be paid according to a formula approved by UFS decision-making structures. The amount is available on request.
