    What the Bursary Covers

    This isn’t just a bursary, it’s a full support system. Sasol offers a comprehensive package that includes:

    • Full tuition fees

    • Accommodation and meals

    • Prescribed textbooks and learning materials

    • Developmental support, including mentorship and vacation work

    Who Should Apply?

    • The bursary is open to South African citizens under the age of 30
    • who plan to study full-time towards a degree (not diploma)
    • in approved fields of study at a recognized South African university.

    Please note: Technical Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy is not accepted.

    Fields of Study (Undergraduate)

    • Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Industrial, Metallurgy, and Mining Engineering

    • Chemistry (to Honours level)

    • Geology (to Honours level)

    • Mine Surveying (University of Technology)

    • Data Science (Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics)

    Fields of Study (Postgraduate)

    Postgraduate bursaries are available for research in areas aligned with Sasol’s innovation and sustainability goals, such as:

    • Chemical Engineering (e.g., Reactor Technology, Thermodynamics)

    • Chemistry (e.g., Environmental Science, Polymer Science)

    • Cyber Security

    • Applied Mathematics and Statistics

    Applicants for postgraduate study must be passionate about contributing to South Africa’s energy transition and circular economy and be able to discuss research areas of interest (formal proposals are not required upfront).

    Important Conditions

    • Bursaries are for standard degree programmes only, hybrid or combined degrees are not eligible.

    • You must study full-time at a recognized South African university (distance learning such as UNISA is not permitted).

    • Only one application per student is allowed.

    • Conditional offers are based on your previous year’s academic performance. Final acceptance depends on maintaining similar results.

    Applications must be submitted online via the official Sasol Bursaries website between 8 April and 18 May 2025. Late or incomplete applications, as well as those submitted by email, will not be considered.
