    JOB OVERVIEW

    Responsibilities:

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Linguistics, with a focus on the spoken and signed languages of Southern Africa

    • Supervise Honours, Master’s, and PhD students

    • Conduct and publish research in the field of Linguistics

    • Engage in departmental and university-level administration and community service

    • Contribute to enhancing the department’s national and international profile

    Qualifications:

    Lecturer:

    • Master’s degree in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics (PhD required for permanent appointment)

    • Experience teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level

    • Conference presentation experience

    • Academic publications or manuscripts in progress

    • Strong academic record

    Senior Lecturer:

    • PhD in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics

    • Extensive university teaching and postgraduate supervision experience

    • Proven research and publication record in accredited journals

    • National or international scholarly recognition

    • Experience in academic service and participation in scholarly societies

    Recommended Expertise:

    • African languages of Southern Africa (spoken/signed)

    • Subfields such as sociolinguistics, phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, multilingualism, computational linguistics, etc.

    • Experience with corpora, experimental linguistic research, and digital teaching platforms (e.g., Blackboard)
