    Job Purpose

    The Professional Nurse Specialty (PNB 1) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care within a designated specialty unit while ensuring compliance with professional nursing standards, healthcare legislation, and departmental policies. The incumbent will deliver comprehensive patient care, manage clinical risks, utilize healthcare resources efficiently, maintain accurate patient records, and contribute to the overall quality of healthcare services within the hospital.

    The position requires advanced nursing knowledge and practical expertise in a specialized field of nursing practice.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Qualifications

    Applicants must possess:

    • Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
    • Diploma or Degree in Nursing that allows registration as a Professional Nurse.

    Professional Registration

    Current registration with the:

    • South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse for the 2026/2027 registration cycle.

    Post-Basic Nursing Qualification

    Applicants must possess a post-basic nursing qualification of at least one year duration in one of the following specialties:

    • Critical Care Nursing
    • Operating Theatre Technique
    • Oncology Nursing
    • Advanced Midwifery and Neonatology Nursing Science

    Experience Requirements

    Grade 1

    • Minimum 4 years appropriate and recognizable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council in General Nursing.

    Grade 2

    • Minimum 14 years appropriate and recognizable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse.
    • At least 10 years of this experience must be after obtaining the relevant post-basic specialty qualification.
