Purpose of the Role
To manage and lead the pharmacy (dispensary and clinic) operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care, regulatory compliance, and strong business performance, while driving customer satisfaction and team effectiveness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Care & Compliance
- Ensure accurate, safe dispensing of medication, including generic substitution
- Provide professional patient counselling and healthcare advice
- Maintain compliance with South African Pharmacy Council regulations and legal standards
Operational Management
- Oversee daily dispensary operations, including stock control, shrinkage, and housekeeping
- Ensure adherence to company policies, merchandising standards, and pharmacy regulations
- Manage administration and ensure accurate record-keeping
Financial Management
- Monitor and control expenses and budgets
- Drive dispensary and clinic performance against financial and sales targets
- Ensure operational sustainability and profitability
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, supervise, and develop pharmacy staff, interns, and learners
- Manage staffing schedules in line with labour policies
- Ensure accurate timekeeping and HR compliance
- Build a high-performance, motivated team
Customer Experience & Service Excellence
- Drive exceptional customer service and patient care
- Implement initiatives to improve customer loyalty and satisfaction
- Achieve targets related to customer programmes (e.g., loyalty participation)
Integration & Collaboration
- Ensure alignment between pharmacy, clinic, and store operations
- Support a holistic healthcare offering to customers
- Promote teamwork and collaboration across departments
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Registered Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience after community service
- At least 1 year of people management experience
Legal Requirement:
- Must be registered as a Responsible Pharmacist (SAPC)
Advantageous (Nice to Have)
- Retail pharmacy experience
- Knowledge of Unisolve system
