    Job Details

    • Position: Professional Civil Engineer (Ref No: PWI 26/11)
    • Department: Public Works and Infrastructure

    • Employment Type: Permanent (OSD – Occupational Specific Dispensation)

     Purpose of the Role

    To design, manage, and oversee civil engineering projects, ensuring compliance with standards, efficient resource utilisation, and delivery of safe, cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

     Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Engineering Design & Project Management

    • Design and develop engineering systems to solve practical challenges
    • Plan, design, operate, and maintain civil engineering projects
    • Develop cost-effective solutions aligned with engineering standards
    • Prepare tender specifications and evaluate technical proposals
    • Approve engineering works in line with prescribed norms and standards

    Technical Oversight & Compliance

    • Review designs, manuals, and procedures to incorporate new technologies
    • Ensure all engineering work complies with legal, regulatory, and safety standards
    • Monitor adherence to engineering principles and codes of practice

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Supervise technicians, technologists, and candidate engineers
    • Facilitate training, mentorship, and skills development
    • Manage performance and support professional growth within the team

    Resource & Financial Management

    • Plan and manage project budgets and resource allocation
    • Monitor expenditure and ensure cost control
    • Support procurement and personnel administration processes

    Reporting & Communication

    • Compile technical reports and project documentation
    • Report on project progress, expenditure, and service delivery
    • Liaise with relevant professional bodies such as the Engineering Council of South Africa

    Research & Development

    • Conduct research to stay updated on engineering technologies and practices
    • Apply innovative solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery
    • Maintain continuous professional development

     Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (NQF Level 7)
    • Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Civil Engineer
    • Valid driver’s licence (except for persons with disabilities)

     Salary & Benefits

    • Salary: R879 342 per annum (all-inclusive package)
