Job Description
This is a supervisory emergency medical services (EMS) role responsible for managing ambulance operations during shifts.
You will lead emergency teams, ensure quick response times, handle major incidents, and provide Intermediate Life Support (ILS) care when needed.
It combines emergency care + operations management + leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency & Clinical Duties
- Provide Intermediate Life Support (ILS) care
- Respond to emergency incidents
- Manage major incidents and emergencies
- Ensure quality patient care in pre-hospital settings
Shift & Staff Management
- Manage EMS shift operations
- Supervise personnel and maintain discipline
- Manage leave schedules and duty rosters
- Support staff performance and coordination
Fleet & Asset Management
- Oversee ambulance fleet readiness
- Maintain vehicle and equipment checklists
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of EMS assets
Administration & Reporting
- Compile management reports
- Review and sign off Patient Report Forms (PRFs)
- Handle general office administration
- Monitor response times and service delivery
Operations & Compliance
- Implement SOPs, policies, and procedures
- Attend district and community meetings
- Manage trip authorities and operational documentation
- Ensure compliance with EMS standards
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Matric)
- Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA) qualification
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an AEA
- Minimum 3 years’ experience post-registration
- Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s licence
- Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit)
Recommended (Advantageous)
- Previous supervisory experience
