Job Description
This is an entry-to-intermediate level emergency medical services (EMS) role focused on providing pre-hospital emergency care and patient transport.
You will respond to emergencies, stabilise patients, and transport them safely to healthcare facilities while following approved clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Medical Care
- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) or Intermediate Life Support (ILS) care
- Stabilise patients at emergency scenes
- Assist with life-saving interventions
Patient Transport
- Transport injured or sick patients to hospitals
- Conduct inter-facility transfers
- Ensure safe handling of patients during transport
Administration & Records
- Complete patient report forms and documentation
- Maintain log sheets and vehicle records
- Handle basic administrative duties
Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
- Clean and maintain ambulances and equipment
- Ensure readiness of emergency vehicles
- Perform routine vehicle and equipment checks
Operational Support
- Follow instructions from supervisors
- Support EMS team operations
- Assist in emergency response coordination
Minimum Requirements
Grade 1 (Entry Level)
- National Senior Certificate (Matric)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) qualification
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA)
- No experience required after registration
Grade 2–3 (Higher Level)
- Intermediate Life Support (ILS) qualification
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA)
- No experience required after registration
Additional Requirements (All Levels)
- Valid Code 10 driver’s licence
- Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Current HPCSA registration (2026/2027)
