    Job Overview

    Mediclinic Welkom is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Professional Nurse – Paediatric to join its healthcare team. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide safe, comprehensive, and high-quality nursing care to paediatric patients in accordance with their Scope of Practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    As the Professional Nurse – Paediatric, you will:

    • Deliver quality nursing care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
    • Assess, identify, prevent, and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
    • Provide compassionate and patient-centred care to children and their families.
    • Create a positive patient experience by maintaining a supportive and caring environment.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records and documentation.
    • Develop and implement appropriate nursing care plans.
    • Promote infection prevention and control practices.
    • Support staff development by creating a positive learning environment.
    • Ensure all stock, medication, and equipment used are accurately recorded.
    • Comply with all relevant nursing legislation, policies, and clinical standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • A Diploma leading to registration as a General Nurse or
    • A 4-year Nursing Diploma or Bachelor of Nursing.
    • Registration with the relevant professional body (where applicable).

    Experience:

    • No prior work experience is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The following will be advantageous:

    • Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Midwifery.
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g. Critical Care, Emergency Care, or Perioperative Nursing) if working in a specialised unit.

    Required Skills and Competencies

    The ideal candidate should possess:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • ACLS, ATLS, or PALS training for specialised units (advantageous).
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
    • Patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
    • Knowledge of nursing processes and procedures.
    • Nursing care planning skills.
    • Accurate nursing record-keeping.
    • Knowledge of pharmacology.
    • Infection prevention and control knowledge.
    • Understanding of relevant nursing legislation.
    • Risk identification and patient safety awareness.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Commitment to professional and ethical nursing practice.
