Job Description
The Deputy Director: Food Security will lead and coordinate food security programmes across the Department and the Free State Province. The role focuses on promoting household food and nutrition security, coordinating agricultural food security initiatives, managing stakeholder relationships, and monitoring the impact of food security programmes.
The successful candidate will also coordinate youth and women-focused agricultural empowerment programmes, manage grant funding, supervise staff, and contribute to the planning and implementation of provincial food security initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote household food and nutrition security.
- Coordinate food security programmes at departmental and provincial level.
- Liaise with key stakeholders when planning and implementing food security initiatives.
- Represent the Department on provincial and national food security forums.
- Compile and maintain databases of:
- Households and institutions benefiting from agricultural food security initiatives.
- Food security stakeholders and role players in the Free State.
- Create awareness about food security.
- Disseminate food security information to management, colleagues, and clients.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation and impact of food security initiatives.
- Coordinate and implement YAFF (Youth in Agriculture and Food Security) programmes.
- Coordinate awareness campaigns, applications, adjudication, provincial events, and national events.
- Coordinate videos and profiles for national adjudication.
- Conduct post-event evaluations and related activities.
- Represent the Department at NOC meetings.
- Coordinate and implement FEA (Female Entrepreneur Awards) in the province.
- Manage awareness campaigns, applications, adjudication, events, and evaluations for FEA.
- Compile reports as required.
- Supervise and manage staff.
- Participate in and apply the Performance Development and Management System (PDMS).
- Participate in relevant formal and informal training and development.
- Manage the physical assets of the unit.
- Provide input into budget planning.
- Manage grant funding allocated to Food Security as the Food Security Pillar Manager.
- Manage grant funding allocated to FEA as the Provincial FEA Coordinator.
- Perform administrative and related functions.
Requirements
- An appropriate Bachelor’s Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture at NQF Level 8.
- 3–4 years’ experience at middle management level, preferably at Assistant Director level, in agriculture.
- Experience in a food security environment will be advantageous.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Compulsory SACNASP registration.
