Job Description
The Deputy Director: Security Management will manage and coordinate the Department’s overall security function. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and managing security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, developing security policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with security standards, and advising management on security matters.
The role also involves working closely with the State Security Agency (SSA) and South African Police Service (SAPS) to manage information security, physical security, security breaches, investigations, and security requirements across departmental premises.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and provide advice on the Department’s overall security function, including:
- Personnel security
- Document security
- Physical security
- Communication security
- Information security
- Identify security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities within the Department.
- Develop and facilitate the implementation of departmental security policies.
- Develop security measures and procedures aligned with approved policies.
- Run security awareness programmes across the Department.
- Advise management on the security implications of management decisions.
- Monitor compliance with security policies and measures.
- Ensure officials with access to sensitive information are properly vetted.
- Administer security vetting applications.
- Recommend and implement corrective or disciplinary measures where required.
- Liaise with the State Security Agency (SSA) regarding:
- Information security
- Security advice and assistance
- Security breach incidents
- Leakage of sensitive information
- Investigations
- Report security breaches and information leakages for investigation.
- Liaise with SAPS regarding physical security needs and challenges.
- Manage security matters such as:
- Key control
- Access control
- Physical security
- Ensure the implementation of the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).
- Manage security resources, including:
- Budget
- Training
- Mentoring and development
- Performance management
- Work allocation
Requirements
- A minimum three-year tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 in:
- Security Management
- Social Science Management
- Management Science
- SSA Security Managers Course.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- 3–4 years’ experience in a supervisory role, such as Assistant Director, within a Security Management environment.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of legislation related to public security.
- Knowledge of the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).
- Understanding of disciplinary procedures and unprofessional conduct.
