Salary Package
- Grade 1: R1,341,855 – R1,422,810 per annum

Job Description
This role involves providing specialist anaesthesiology services, including perioperative care, critical care support, and pain management. You will be responsible for ensuring safe anaesthesia during surgical procedures, managing critically ill patients, and contributing to clinical governance and training.
The position also includes teaching, supervision, and outreach support within the Free State healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
- Administer anaesthesia for surgical and medical procedures
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients within anaesthesiology
- Provide perioperative and critical care support
- Prescribe medication and interpret diagnostic tests
Emergency & Critical Care
- Perform resuscitation and intensive care interventions
- Manage critically ill patients to improve survival outcomes
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise and train junior medical staff
- Support multidisciplinary team collaboration
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Ensure proper medico-legal documentation
- Reduce risk of medical litigation
Quality & Governance
- Conduct clinical audits
- Monitor healthcare quality indicators
- Ensure compliance with:
- Health Professions Council of South Africa
- Free State Department of Health
- Office of Health Standards Compliance
Outreach & Administration
- Provide outpatient consultations
- Support healthcare services across the Free State
- Perform commuted overtime duties (compulsory)
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Senior Certificate)
- MBChB (Medical Degree)
- Specialist qualification in Anaesthesiology
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Specialist
- Current HPCSA registration (2026/2027)
Experience Requirements
- Grade 1: No experience required
- Grade 2: Minimum 5 years’ experience as a registered specialist
- Grade 3: Minimum 10 years’ experience as a registered specialist
