Job Description
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is seeking a qualified Relief Blood Bank Technologist to perform routine testing functions in Blood Banks. The successful candidate will conduct tests including compatibility testing, post-natal testing, and preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.
The incumbent will also be responsible for checking and verifying test results performed by Registered Blood Bank Technicians, Registered Trainee Technicians, and Registered Student Technologists.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine blood bank testing functions.
- Conduct compatibility testing.
- Perform post-natal testing.
- Conduct preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.
- Check and verify test results performed by junior and trainee staff.
- Perform specialist technical functions.
- Support quality and risk management objectives.
- Maintain instruments and laboratory equipment.
- Provide effective customer service.
- Follow laboratory procedures, quality standards, and professional requirements.
- Perform overtime, night shifts, and weekend duties according to the roster.
- Travel locally and nationally when required.
Minimum Requirements
- HPCSA-registered Medical Technologist (Blood Transfusion).
- Experience required for HPCSA registration as a Medical Technologist in Blood Transfusion.
Special Requirements
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
- Willingness to work night shifts and weekends according to the roster.
- Ability to travel occasionally locally and nationally.
