    Job Description

    Virgin Active South Africa is looking for a Facility Manager to oversee preventative and reactive maintenance within the club. The successful candidate will ensure that the club’s facilities, equipment, utilities, and systems are maintained to high standards, while ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.

    The Facility Manager will also support exceptional member experiences by ensuring that the club environment remains safe, functional, well-maintained, and aligned with Virgin Active brand standards.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Complete preventative maintenance on:
      • Fitness equipment
      • Swimming pools and spa systems
      • HVAC systems
      • Hot and cold-water systems
      • Building infrastructure
      • Saunas and steam rooms
    • Complete reactive maintenance logged in the maintenance and Health & Safety Job Book.
    • Respond to emergency repairs.
    • Upskill and support Maintenance Operators and Maintenance Technicians.
    • Manage contractor requests and obtain the necessary approvals and purchase orders.
    • Escalate unresolved maintenance issues to the Club General Manager and Regional Facility Manager.
    • Ensure preventative maintenance is completed according to VASA policies and procedures.
    • Manage Health and Safety processes, checks, audits, and documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and operating standards.
    • Monitor and improve work standards, security, and safety across the facility.
    • Manage utility consumption and investigate high water and electricity usage.
    • Address Brand Standards and state-of-repair concerns.
    • Assist with managing maintenance and facility-related budgets.
    • Support club teams as a Head of Department and act as a Manager on Duty when required.
    • Collaborate with technical colleagues across the region.
    • Manage maintenance costs and ensure budgets are not exceeded.

    Requirements

    • Matric / NSC qualification.
    • Advanced relevant technical qualification.
    • 2–3 years’ proven maintenance experience.
    • Hands-on experience in:
      • Plumbing
      • Electrical systems
      • HVAC
      • Plant equipment
    • Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety requirements.
    • Experience working independently.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including email, Word, and Excel.
    • Understanding of utility consumption management.
    • Experience managing maintenance costs.
    • Proven people management skills.
    • Experience managing Health and Safety checks and processes.

    Technical Knowledge and Skills

    Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and operation of:

    • Electronic controls
