     Job Description

    This role focuses on Occupational Health Nursing, where you ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees in the workplace.

    You will assess workplace risks, monitor worker health, and implement programmes that prevent occupational diseases and injuries.

    It combines clinical nursing, public health, and workplace safety management.

     Key Responsibilities

     Clinical Occupational Health Care

    • Conduct medical assessments for employees
    • Diagnose common illnesses and chronic conditions
    • Manage occupational injuries and diseases

     Health Surveillance & Risk Assessment

    • Perform health surveillance of workers
    • Conduct:
      • Pre-employment assessments
      • Periodic health checks
      • Exit medicals
    • Identify workplace hazards and evaluate risks

     Programme Development & Management

    • Develop occupational health programmes
    • Ensure quality healthcare delivery in workplace settings
    • Maintain occupational nursing standards

     Health Promotion & Education

    • Promote healthy lifestyles in workplaces
    • Run health awareness campaigns
    • Educate employees on:
      • Disease prevention
      • Injury prevention
      • Behavioural change

     Compliance & Legal Duties

    • Apply:
      • Occupational Health & Safety Act
      • Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA)
    • Ensure legal compliance in workplace health services

     Administration & Systems Management

    • Use IT systems for health data management
    • Maintain occupational health records
    • Report on workplace health trends

     Employee Support Services

    • Identify need for Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP)
    • Refer employees for:
      • HIV/STI support
      • Substance abuse counselling
      • Mental health support
      • Chronic disease management

     Resource Management

    • Manage occupational health resources
    • Ensure efficient use of medical supplies and equipment

     Minimum Requirements

    •  Nursing diploma/degree (R425 qualification or equivalent)
    •  Registration with the South African Nursing Council
    •  Minimum 4 years nursing experience after registration
    •  1-year post-basic qualification in Occupational Health Nursing Science
    •  Dispensing certificate (required)
