Job Purpose
To execute planning, operation, maintenance, fault repairs, and construction activities on the electrical distribution network in accordance with Eskom’s policies, standards, procedures, work practices, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance of Electrical Networks
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution infrastructure.
- Inspect network equipment and assets.
- Ensure network reliability and operational efficiency.
- Maintain electrical systems up to and including 132kV.
2. Fault Repairs
- Identify and diagnose faults on the distribution network.
- Respond to outages and emergency situations.
- Repair defective electrical equipment and infrastructure.
- Restore power supply safely and efficiently.
3. Construction and Asset Building
- Assist in the construction and installation of new electrical network infrastructure.
- Upgrade and expand network assets.
- Ensure construction work complies with Eskom standards and specifications.
- Support commissioning activities when required.
4. Health and Safety Compliance
- Adhere to Eskom health and safety regulations.
- Promote safe work practices.
- Conduct work in accordance with electrical safety procedures.
- Identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and operational standards.
5. Training and Skills Development
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
- Assist with on-the-job training.
- Share technical knowledge and operational best practices.
6. Customer Service
- Support the delivery of reliable electricity services.
- Respond to customer-related operational issues.
- Maintain service standards and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure service agreements are met.
Minimum Requirements
Qualification
Essential
- Senior Artisan Trade Certificate (Dry Trade).
- NQF Level 4 qualification with a minimum of 120 credits.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in:
- Distribution network operations.
- Electrical maintenance and repair.
- Distribution network maintenance activities.
Technical Knowledge Required
Candidates should have knowledge of:
- Electrical distribution systems.
- Electrical network maintenance.
- Fault finding and troubleshooting.
