Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking an experienced Casual Cashier to provide exceptional customer service at the point of sale while ensuring accurate processing of transactions and adherence to company policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will be responsible for handling customer purchases, processing payments, maintaining cash control, supporting loyalty programmes, and contributing to a safe and positive shopping experience. The role requires a high level of accuracy, honesty, and customer service excellence.
Main Purpose of the Role
To process customer transactions accurately and efficiently while delivering a world-class shopping experience and minimizing financial risks through strict compliance with company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service at all times.
- Build professional relationships with customers.
- Assist customers with queries regarding merchandise and store services.
- Report customer complaints and compliments to management.
- Apply Dis-Chem’s customer service standards and communication principles.
Cashiering and Transaction Processing
- Process customer purchases accurately.
- Receive and process payments, including:
- Cash
- Bank cards
- Vouchers
- Coupons
- Other approved payment methods
- Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges according to company procedures.
- Process loyalty programme transactions and rewards.
Cash Handling and Security
- Maintain accurate cash drawer balances.
- Ensure all cash is safely secured.
- Deposit cash into drop safes according to company procedures.
- Handle daily takings confidentially.
- Prevent losses, fraud, and transactional errors.
- Ensure secure use of cashier codes and passwords.
Stock and Merchandise Control
- Ensure all outgoing merchandise is scanned and paid for.
- Verify authorised returns and exchanges.
- Monitor transactions for irregularities.
- Assist in preventing stock losses and shrinkage.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Adhere to Dis-Chem security policies and procedures.
- Ensure all voids and price changes are authorised by supervisors.
- Identify and report suspicious behaviour.
- Maintain compliance with company standard operating procedures.
Sales and Promotions
- Stay informed about current promotions and specials.
- Support sales initiatives at the point of sale.
- Promote customer participation in loyalty programmes.

Educational Qualifications

- Grade 12 (Matric)
Experience

- Minimum 6 months’ experience in:
- Cashiering
- Till operations
