    Job Description

    Dis-Chem Goldfields is seeking a Casual Frontshop Assistant to support retail operations by maintaining merchandising standards, replenishing stock, assisting customers, processing transactions, and ensuring a clean and organised shopping environment.

    The successful candidate will contribute to excellent customer service, effective stock management, and smooth day-to-day store operations while adhering to company policies and procedures.

    Main Purpose of the Role

    To maintain merchandising standards, support customer service activities, assist with stock control, and ensure efficient frontshop operations that contribute to a positive customer shopping experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    Merchandising and Shelf Management

    • Ensure shelves are fully stocked and neatly presented.
    • Monitor product displays and merchandising standards.
    • Ensure products are correctly priced and labelled.
    • Report pricing discrepancies to management.
    • Maintain product availability to maximise sales opportunities.

    Stock Control and Inventory Management

    • Restock merchandise when required.
    • Monitor stock expiry dates and remove expired products.
    • Follow up on out-of-stock customer requests.
    • Report low stock levels to management.
    • Assist with stock rotation procedures.
    • Identify and report damaged stock.
    • Assist with stock counts and stocktaking activities.

    Receiving and Storage

    • Assist with loading and off-loading stock.
    • Ensure incoming stock is stored correctly.
    • Maintain a clean and organised storeroom.
    • Flatten and dispose of packaging materials appropriately.
    • Ensure stock is packed in designated storage areas.

    Customer Service

    • Build professional relationships with customers.
    • Provide friendly and helpful assistance.
    • Answer customer enquiries regarding products and services.
    • Handle customer complaints and compliments professionally.
    • Maintain excellent customer service standards.

    Cashiering and Point-of-Sale Support

    • Process customer purchases accurately.
    • Receive and process payments, including:
      • Cash
      • Bank cards
      • Vouchers
      • Coupons
      • Loyalty programme transactions
    • Assist with authorised exchanges and returns.
    • Ensure accurate cash handling and reconciliation.

    Cash Handling and Security

    • Maintain accurate cash flow procedures.
    • Secure daily takings according to company policies.
    • Ensure all price changes and line voids are authorised.
    • Report suspicious behaviour by customers or staff.
    • Protect company assets and minimise losses.

    Housekeeping and Compliance

    • Maintain store cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
    • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations.
    • Follow company policies and standard operating procedures.
    • Maintain professional appearance standards.
    • Ensure compliance with Dis-Chem operational requirements.

    Team Support

    • Assist with training new team members when required.
    • Support colleagues during busy trading periods.
    • Contribute positively to team objectives.
    • Help maintain operational efficiency.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Qualifications

    Essential

    • Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate

    Advantageous

    • Certification in Retail Business Management

    Experience

    Essential

    • 0–6 months retail work experience

    Advantageous

    • Minimum 1 year retail experience
