Job Description
This is a specialist nursing management role focused on advanced midwifery and neonatal care services. You will be responsible for managing high-level maternal and newborn care services, ensuring clinical excellence, staff supervision, and compliance with healthcare standards.
The role combines clinical leadership, operational management, training, and quality improvement in a maternity and neonatal care environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Specialty Care Coordination
- Oversee advanced midwifery and neonatal nursing services
- Ensure safe, high-quality maternal and newborn care
- Maintain clinical standards in maternity and neonatal units
Leadership & Supervision
- Manage and supervise nursing staff in the unit
- Ensure proper utilisation of human and material resources
- Support staff development and performance management
Training & Development
- Coordinate training for nursing staff in maternity/neonatal care
- Participate in clinical teaching and professional development
- Support research activities in the specialty area
Compliance & Governance
Ensure adherence to:
- Nursing Act
- Health Act
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Patient Rights Charter
- Batho Pele Principles
- Public service HR and financial policies
Operational Management
- Manage daily unit operations
- Ensure effective resource allocation
- Maintain service delivery standards
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Senior Certificate)
- Nursing diploma/degree (R425 qualification or equivalent)
- Post-basic qualification (1-year) in:
- Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse
- Current SANC registration (2026/2027)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 9 years nursing experience after registration
- At least 5 years specialised experience in midwifery/neonatal nursing after post-basic qualification
- Must be willing to work shifts
