As an Electrical Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the Electrical Maintenance Department at the abattoir.
Job Description
The Electrical Assistant will help qualified electricians with various electrical maintenance and repair tasks. This includes installation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of electrical systems and machinery within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting Electricians with installation, repairs, and maintenance
- Handling cables and wiring safely and effectively
- Operating hand-held tools and machines related to electrical work
- Ensuring all necessary tools and equipment are available for breakdowns
- Assisting with fault-finding and problem-solving on electrical equipment
- Maintaining a clean and organized workshop
- Adhering to safety standards such as ISO, HACCP, and Occupational Health & Safety
- Supporting weekend and overtime maintenance work when required
- Communicating effectively with maintenance managers, electricians, and production staff
- Performing general tasks as directed by management
Job Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent
- N2 Electrical qualification (advantageous but not required)
Work Experience
- At least 2 years of electrical experience in an Abattoir Maintenance Department
- PLC & VSD experience and ability to read electrical plans
- Experience in FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) industry is an advantage
- Willingness to work overtime, shifts, and weekends
Skills & Competencies
- Good communication skills – ability to work well with the team
- Problem-solving skills – ability to assist with troubleshooting electrical faults
- Attention to detail – ensuring accuracy in electrical tasks
- Ability to work under pressure – responding quickly to electrical breakdowns
- Team player – ability to work collaboratively with electricians and production staff
