    Job Overview

    The Department is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Town and Regional Planner to provide strategic, technical and professional leadership in town and regional planning, spatial planning, and land use management at provincial level.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for providing planning advice and technical support, managing spatial planning processes, ensuring legislative compliance, and supporting development planning programmes across the province.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning or Urban and Regional Planning.
    • Compulsory registration with SACPLAN as a Professional Town and Regional Planner on appointment.
    • Minimum 6 years’ post-qualification experience in Town and Regional Planning.
    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Willingness to travel.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide town and regional spatial planning and future forecasting.
    • Lead and manage the application of town and regional planning principles in land development.
    • Provide technical assistance to professional teams on town and regional planning projects.
    • Monitor development implementation to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, standards and guidelines.
    • Manage the compilation and adoption of technical and planning standards, norms and guidelines.
    • Formulate and interpret planning legislation, guidelines, policies and regulations.
    • Provide spatial planning and land use management services in liaison with the National Office.
    • Implement tools, systems, guidelines, policies, programmes and legislation for spatial planning and land use management at provincial level.
    • Provide governance and oversee the allocation, monitoring and control of resources.
    • Compile risk logs and manage significant risks in accordance with sound risk management practices.
    • Provide technical consulting services on architectural-related matters to minimise potential architectural risks.
    • Manage and implement knowledge-sharing initiatives, including short-term assignments and secondments.
    • Monitor the exchange and protection of information to support effective knowledge management.
    • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provide development planning support to departmental programmes and rural development at provincial level.
    • Render planning support and advice to departmental programmes.
    • Manage the development of spatial plans at National, Regional, Provincial and Municipal levels.

    Salary

    R1,143,468 – R2,108,922 per annum

    The salary will be determined in accordance with the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD).
