Tender Description
The NHLS is inviting suitably qualified contractors to undertake renovations to the Sasolburg Laboratory. The project involves building, refurbishment, electrical, plumbing, flooring, partitioning, painting, cabinetry, doors and other facility upgrades.
The works must be carried out while taking into account the operational requirements of a healthcare and laboratory environment.
Scope of Work
The renovation work includes:
- Renovations to the reception area.
- Upgrades to Haematology/Chemistry areas.
- Waste room improvements.
- Kitchen renovations.
- Lab Manager’s office upgrades.
- Storeroom improvements.
- Tea/Board Room renovations.
- Supply and installation of laboratory cupboards and office furniture.
- Installation of lockers, shelving, tables and chairs.
- Installation of security and aluminium-framed glass doors.
- Installation of emergency push-bar handles.
- Electrical distribution board and circuit modifications.
- Installation of socket points, isolators and LED lighting.
- Plumbing repairs and installations.
- Sink and basin replacements.
- Drainage and sewer outlet repairs.
- Installation of emergency showers and Hydroboil connections.
- Crack repairs and painting.
- Installation of heavy-duty vinyl and acid-resistant tile flooring.
- Suspended ceilings and drywall partitioning.
- Installation of NHLS signage.
Technical Requirements
Bidders must comply with the specifications contained in the RFQ documentation, including:
- Minimum CIDB Grade 1 GB registration.
- Valid electrical wireman and plumbing trade-test qualifications where applicable.
- Valid Department of Labour Letter of Good Standing.
- Compliance with applicable SANS and SABS requirements.
- Electrical work to comply with SANS 10142.
- Appropriate plumbing and electrical Certificates of Compliance upon completion.
- Materials and finishes must meet the specified project standards and approvals.
- Works must be appropriately phased to minimise disruption to laboratory and healthcare operations.
- Special precautions must be taken when working near sensitive diagnostic equipment.
- A 12-month guarantee applies to defects in materials and workmanship.
- A retention provision applies after practical completion as specified in the tender documentation.
Contractor Requirements
Potential bidders should have:
- Experience in building renovations and refurbishment.
- Suitable qualified and experienced personnel.
- Capacity to undertake electrical and plumbing components where required.
- Experience working in institutional, healthcare or laboratory environments would be advantageous.
- Ability to manage work safely within an operational facility.
- Appropriate project management and construction coordination capabilities.
- References for relevant previous work, where required by the RFQ.

- Declaration of Interest – SBD 4.
- Specific Goals – SBD 6.1.
- Central Supplier Database (CSD) Report.
