    Purpose of the Job

    To lead and manage the High Care Unit, ensuring optimal clinical care, compliance with healthcare standards, and efficient use of resources. The Unit Manager will oversee operations, staff performance, and continuous quality improvement within a fast-paced, high-dependency environment.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    Education:

    • Professional Nurse Qualification

    • SANC Registration (South African Nursing Council)

    • Required (either one of the following):

      • Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management or other accredited management qualification,
        OR

      • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a hospital

    • If managing a specialist unit (e.g., Perioperative Nursing):

      • Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Specialty required

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Professional Nurse in a hospital

    • At least 2 years of leadership experience in a hospital setting

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee all clinical operations of the High Care Unit

    • Manage and supervise nursing staff and ensure adherence to protocols

    • Ensure optimal patient care and uphold clinical excellence standards

    • Implement and monitor hospital policies, quality assurance, and health and safety regulations

    • Manage unit budgets, resources, and inventory effectively

    • Lead the team in a high-pressure, critical care environment

    • Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals, and senior management
