The Poultry Meat Examiner is responsible for monitoring and evaluating poultry carcasses on the processing line to ensure compliance with the Meat Safety Act and Grain Field Chickens (GFC) quality standards. The role plays a critical part in food safety, quality assurance, and loss prevention in the abattoir environment.
Key Purpose of the Role
To examine poultry carcasses for defects, diseases, contamination, and quality deviations in accordance with the Meat Safety Act, ensuring only compliant and safe products proceed through the production line.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / NQF Level 4

Valid and approved PME Certificate (Poultry Meat Examiner)

Previous PME experience (advantageous)

Mathematics or Math Literacy desirable

Strong mathematical ability (will be tested)

Clear criminal record

Ability to work under pressure

Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Carcass Inspection & Compliance
-
Inspect poultry carcasses on the line for quality and safety compliance.

Do not allow any non-compliant product through as per the Meat Safety Act.

Correctly identify defects, diseases, contamination, and damage levels.

Remove or partially condemn carcasses depending on classification.
Quality Control & Loss Prevention

Ensure no unnecessary rejection of acceptable product to prevent avoidable losses.

Ensure correct recovery of portions at the recovery station.

Maintain strict adherence to GFC standards and SOPs.
Health, Safety & Food Safety
-
Follow all health, safety, and hygiene standards at all times.

Ensure compliance with the Meat Safety Act and internal GFC regulations.

Report any non-conformances or variances to the department head immediately.
Administration & Reporting

Maintain accurate reporting and documentation.

Liaise with internal departments to ensure smooth workflow and product quality.

Successfully complete all mandatory training required by management.
