The Site Agent is responsible for managing and controlling road construction projects, specifically asphalt and seal surfacing works. This role ensures project profitability, adherence to contractual obligations, compliance with health and safety legislation, and effective supervision of site teams. The Site Agent plays a central function in project planning, execution, progress tracking, quality assurance, and risk management.
Key Purpose of the Role
To manage road construction operations on-site, ensuring that projects are executed safely, within budget, on time, and to the required quality standards, while upholding the company’s contractual and legal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Contract Management
Ensure contract profitability and cost control.
Submit monthly payment applications timeously.
Finalise contracts and short-term programmes.
Ensure contractual obligations are thoroughly applied and protected.
Maintain safe-keeping and distribution of contract records.
Compile and implement the project Quality File.
Site Operations & Production Supervision
Monitor progress against programme using weekly production and cost meetings.
Liaise with Foremen and Contract Manager regarding production needs.
Monitor production vs. allowable targets and initiate corrective actions.
Manage, supervise, and inspect contractors’ work on-site.
Interpret structural drawings and explain them to contractors.
Identify and mitigate delays caused by drawing errors or omissions.
Ensure proper implementation of method statements and risk assessments.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Work closely with the Construction Health and Safety Officer.
Ensure adherence to HSE legislation and site rules.
Conduct inspections of PPE and monitor compliance.
Detect and analyse non-conformances and implement corrective action.
Uphold company policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12
Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering
Minimum 10 years’ experience in Road Construction (Asphalt & Seal mandatory)
Proven experience on major road projects (essential)
Professionally registered with ECSA or SACPCMP (No Candidate registrations)
Valid driver’s licence and own transport
Computer literate
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
South African citizenship
