Role Summary
Responsible for maintaining and monitoring occupational health and safety standards in compliance with company policies, the OHS Act, COID Act, and related legislation.
Provides occupational health, safety, and nursing services across stores.
Involves extensive local travel, home visits, and handling confidential medical information.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
Experience
2–3 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety (preferred)
Advantageous Qualification
Advanced OHS Act Certificate (NOSA)
Knowledge
Thorough knowledge of:
OHS Act
COID Act
Occupational health and safety regulations
Key Responsibilities
1. Occupational Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with OHS legislation and reduce Injuries on Duty (IODs)
Identify and report health and safety risks during store visits
Analyse and verify IOD reports and injury trends
Investigate recurring incidents and recommend corrective actions
Compile and submit monthly incident and safety statistics
Advise on procedures following fatalities (employee or customer)
Monitor first aid compliance, medical waste removal, and risk assessments
Participate as a non-voting member of Health & Safety Committees
2. Occupational Nursing
Coordinate baseline, exit, and executive medical examinations
Provide first aid and manage minor workplace injuries
Respond to customer medical emergencies
Assess and support employees with occupational or primary healthcare needs
Advise management on employee medical and occupational health matters
3. Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
Facilitate HIV/AIDS programmes including VCT and awareness training
Coordinate Peer Educator and management training initiatives
Support employees with chronic or serious medical conditions
Manage health-related absenteeism cases
Respond to trauma incidents and arrange trauma counselling
Promote wellness initiatives and First Aid training
4. Administration
Compile and submit monthly Occupational Health Practitioner reports
Assist with disability, salary continuation, and UIF applications
Coordinate medical appointments for disability assessments
Maintain accurate, confidential medical records
Monitor OHP budget expenditure
Ensure compliant disposal of medical waste
Schedule and document store visits
Assist with public liability claim documentation
