    • R468,459.00 per annum (plus benefits) – for non-legally qualified candidates

    • R506,238.00 per annum (plus benefits) – for legally qualified candidates

    Purpose of the Position

    To conduct investigations and attend to complaints relating to maladministration, abuse of power, improper conduct, or undue delay by persons performing public functions within state organs and parastatals. The role requires the incumbent to promote good governance, accountability, and fair administrative practices in line with the Public Protector South Africa’s mandate.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • A Degree or National Diploma in one of the following fields: Law, Auditing, Forensic Accounting, or Forensic Investigations.

    • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Investigations, Forensic Investigations, or Forensic Auditing.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies

    • Strong understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Protector South Africa.

    • Sound knowledge of Good Governance principles.

    • Investigation, auditing, and forensic techniques proficiency.

    • Excellent negotiation, mediation, and conciliation skills (Alternative Dispute Resolution).

    • Legal research and interpretation skills.

    • Proficient report writing and project management capabilities.

    • Knowledge and application of Case Management Systems (CMS) or similar.

    • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite).

    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to maintain objectivity, impartiality, and integrity in all matters.

    • Valid driver’s licence and fluency in English plus another official language relevant to the province.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct investigations into maladministration, undue delay, and improper conduct within public entities.

    • Prepare investigation plans for assigned matters and ensure compliance with PPSA service standards.

    • Apply Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms to resolve complaints efficiently.

    • Maintain effective communication with complainants throughout the investigation process.

    • Draft and submit letters, memoranda, investigation, and closing reports within prescribed timelines.

    • Gather, analyse, and evaluate evidence to formulate findings and recommendations.

    • Produce high-quality, well-reasoned reports that address maladministration and propose corrective action.

    • Promote transparency, accountability, and ethical governance through investigative outcomes.
