Job Description
The Operational Ambulance Emergency Assistant will respond to emergency calls and provide intermediate medical care in accordance with the applicable scope of practice.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring operational readiness, delivering appropriate patient care, maintaining accurate patient documentation, and contributing to a positive public image of ER24.
The role requires the ability to respond effectively to emergency situations while following HPCSA guidelines, best-practice principles, and established emergency medical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The Operational Ambulance Emergency Assistant will be responsible for:
- Ensuring operational readiness for emergency calls.
- Responding to emergency medical calls.
- Providing intermediate medical care within the applicable scope of practice.
- Administering appropriate patient care according to established procedures.
- Applying best-practice principles when treating patients.
- Completing and maintaining accurate Patient Report Forms.
- Reporting near misses, slips, and adverse events.
- Maintaining professional conduct when interacting with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and members of the public.
- Supporting and maintaining a positive public image for ER24.
- Following relevant HPCSA guidelines and scope-of-practice requirements.
- Using knowledge of local facilities, travel routes, and the surrounding demographic area to support effective emergency response.
- Using computer systems and Microsoft Office where required.
Requirements
Essential Qualification
Applicants must have:
- Ambulance Emergency Assistant Certificate.
Experience
Candidates must have:
- At least 1 year of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience.
Desired Experience
- 1 year of Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA) experience will be advantageous.
Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate should have:
- Knowledge and application of best-practice principles.
- Understanding of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
- Knowledge of Patient Report Forms.
- Knowledge of local facilities and emergency travel routes.
- Familiarity with the demographic area in which they operate.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to remain professional and effective in emergency situations.
- Strong patient-care and interpersonal skills.
