Job Overview
The Service Worker – Gardening General Worker is responsible for maintaining and cleaning gardens and outdoor areas across the University of the Free State. The role ensures that campus grounds are safe, functional, and aesthetically maintained according to standards. The position involves equipment operation, adherence to safety procedures, and supporting day-to-day gardening operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operations

Perform general maintenance and cleaning of gardens and terrain.

Maintain and inspect gardening equipment.

Follow daily schedules and ad hoc instructions from management.

Assist with refuse and waste management.

Adhere to procedures, protocols, and safety standards.
Internal Reporting

Report to line manager, supervisor, driver, or team leader.

Provide feedback and communicate progress to management.
Quality Assurance

Maintain grounds and terrain according to standard procedures and specifications.

Ensure equipment and workspace are clean and safe.

Follow health and safety protocols, including PPE compliance.
Inherent Requirements

Grade 10 on NQF Level 2 (attach proof).

Experience related to gardening and grounds maintenance.
Recommendations

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.

Experience operating gardening equipment and machinery.

Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
