The Department of Correctional Services is inviting applications for the position of Artisan Production Grade A: Welder on a 12-month contract in the Colesberg Management Area. The successful candidate will perform welding and maintenance work, ensure high-quality workmanship, manage workshop resources, and provide practical trade training to offenders.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Training offenders in welding trade skills.
- Executing welding work according to approved requisitions and client work orders.
- Manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining metal structures and equipment.
- Applying quality control measures to all completed work and manufactured products.
- Preparing product costing and supply quotations.
- Performing basic workshop administration duties.
- Managing workshop tools, equipment, and materials efficiently.
- Carrying out maintenance services in accordance with departmental standards.
- Ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and legal requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records of work completed and resources used.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) underwritten by the Manpower Training Act.
- A valid driver’s licence.
