    Purpose of the Position

    To contribute to teaching, research, curriculum development, academic leadership, and community engagement within the School of Accountancy while supporting the development of future accounting professionals.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in:
      • Financial Accounting
      • Managerial Accounting and Finance
      • Taxation
      • Auditing
    • Develop students’ digital and professional competencies.
    • Contribute to curriculum innovation and alignment with professional accounting body requirements.
    • Advance teaching and learning practices within the School of Accountancy.

    Research

    • Conduct research and publish in accredited journals.
    • Present papers at conferences, workshops, colloquia, and seminars.
    • Build research collaborations and professional partnerships.
    • Contribute to the growth of scholarly knowledge in accountancy and related disciplines.

    Administration and Service

    • Perform departmental administrative duties.
    • Participate in professional and scholarly bodies.
    • Build relationships with industry and professional accountancy organizations.

    Additional Responsibilities by Academic Rank

    Senior Lecturer

    • Provide academic leadership and quality assurance.
    • Supervise Honours, Master’s and PhD students.
    • Mentor junior academics.

    Associate Professor

    • Provide faculty and university-wide academic leadership.
    • Supervise postgraduate research students.
    • Mentor junior staff members.
    • Maintain a strong publication record.

    Minimum Requirements

    Lecturer

    • Master’s Degree (NQF 9) in Accountancy or a related field; or
    • Chartered Accountant (SA) with a relevant SAICA-endorsed qualification.
    • Good academic record.
    • Experience presenting research at conferences.
    • Evidence of research suitable for publication.

    Senior Lecturer

    • Relevant PhD (NQF 10) or CA(SA) with a Master’s degree.
    • National recognition in research.
    • Experience supervising Master’s students.
    • Proven publication record.
    • Potential or existing NRF rating.

    Associate Professor

    • Relevant PhD (NQF 10).
    • Chartered Accountant (SA).
    • Experience examining postgraduate students.
    • Strong research leadership and publication record.
    • NRF rating of C3 or equivalent.
    • National or international scholarly leadership experience.

    Preferred Qualifications and Experience

    • Membership of professional accounting bodies.
    • Practical experience in Accountancy, Auditing, Taxation, Financial Accounting, or Managerial Accounting and Finance.
    • Recent university-level teaching experience.
    • Strong leadership and management capabilities.
    • Active participation in academic and professional communities.
