Job Description
AVBOB Industries is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented SHE Officer to join its Quality and Continuous Improvement department in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the company’s Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) management systems to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and promote a safe working environment.
This role involves conducting risk assessments, leading safety initiatives, investigating incidents, delivering SHE training, and fostering a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental awareness across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor company Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures.
- Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and implement preventative measures.
- Perform regular workplace inspections, audits, and safety walks.
- Lead and promote 5S workplace organisation initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
- Deliver SHE training sessions and toolbox talks to employees and contractors.
- Maintain accurate SHE documentation, including safety data sheets, training records, audit reports, and incident logs.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and other applicable regulations.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
- Work closely with operational teams to integrate SHE requirements into daily operations.
- Liaise with external regulatory authorities and contractors when required.
- Prepare reports and support ongoing safety improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related qualification.
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience in a similar SHE or HSE role.
- Working knowledge of relevant SHE legislation, standards, and best practices.
- Health and Safety certifications, including:
- SHE Representative
- First Aid Level 3
- Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Experience conducting Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA).
- Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent report writing abilities.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Experience with database maintenance.
- Good planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Self-motivated, organised, and results-driven.
