- Purpose:
Pick, pack, and prepare online grocery orders for delivery or customer collection through Pick n Pay’s - ASAP and Click & Collect services.
Job Purpose
The Online (ASAP) Shopper is responsible for accurately picking, packing, and preparing customer orders placed through Pick n Pay’s online platforms, including ASAP and Click & Collect. The role ensures that customers receive the correct products in excellent condition and on time. The position supports the store’s commitment to quality, efficiency, and customer service by selecting the best available products, maintaining freshness standards, and following substitution guidelines when necessary.
Main Duties
1. Order Picking
Find products listed in the customer’s online order.
Use a handheld scanner/device to confirm the correct item and quantity.
Report items that are out of stock or damaged.
2. Product Quality
Choose the freshest items (especially fruits, vegetables, bakery).
Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) for expiry dates.
Handle fragile items carefully.
3. Substitutions
If an item is out of stock, choose a similar alternative.
Record substitutions in the system.
Follow store guidelines.
4. Packing Orders
Pack items properly:
Frozen
Chilled
Ambient
Label orders with customer details and collection/delivery slot.
5. Team Communication
Work with:
Online cashier
Online supervisor
Dispatch team
Report system or stock issues.
6. Safety & Hygiene
Follow food safety and hygiene rules.
Keep the packing area clean.
Follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Requirements
Minimum:
Grade 12 (Matric)
Helpful but not required:
Retail or supermarket experience
Experience using scanners or picking systems
Other requirements:
Good attention to detail
Ability to walk/stand for long periods
Able to work shifts, weekends, and holidays
Good English communication
