Job Purpose
The Frontline Cashier is responsible for providing efficient and friendly checkout services to customers. The role involves processing purchases, handling payments accurately, maintaining register balance, and ensuring customers receive a positive shopping experience at the point of sale.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service

Greet customers politely and assist them during checkout.

Process purchases quickly and accurately.

Inform customers about store promotions and loyalty programmes.

Address customer questions or concerns and refer complex issues to a supervisor.
Transaction Processing
-
Scan items and verify prices.
-
Accept payments including cash, debit/credit cards, vouchers, and loyalty points.
-
Provide correct change and issue receipts.
-
Process refunds, exchanges, and void transactions when required.
Cash Handling
-
Count and verify the cash float at the beginning of shifts.
-
Balance the till at the end of the shift.
-
Safeguard cash and report discrepancies or suspicious activities.
Product and Pricing Control

Ensure items scan correctly and match shelf prices.
-
Apply discounts, promotions, and loyalty rewards correctly.
-
Verify identification for age-restricted products where necessary.
Till Area Maintenance

Maintain a clean, organized checkout counter.
-
Ensure adequate supplies such as shopping bags, till rolls, and cleaning materials.

Follow store hygiene and presentation standards.
Compliance and Safety

Follow company policies and procedures.

Comply with workplace safety and hygiene standards.

Report hazards, theft, or suspicious activity immediately.
Teamwork

Work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisors.

Assist with opening and closing tills when required.

Support other departments during busy periods.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4 qualification

Basic communication skills in English

Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Ability to stand for long periods during shifts
Experience in retail or cashier work is advantageous but not required, as training may be provided.
