Job Summary:
The Laydown Area Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the setup, operation, and management of the laydown area on a renewable energy construction site. This includes supervising the receipt, inspection, storage, and distribution of materials such as solar panels, mounting structures, and electrical components. The role also involves enforcing strict safety standards, maintaining accurate inventory, and coordinating with multiple site stakeholders to ensure efficient workflow and material availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Laydown Area Management
Set up and manage daily operations of the laydown area.
Oversee receiving, inspection, and storage of:
Solar panels
Mounting structures
Electrical components
General construction materials
Ensure correct labelling, stacking, and storage practices.
- Construction & Solar Coordination
Coordinate with site supervisors to schedule timely material delivery.
Manage safe movement and handling of solar PV components.
Prepare and stage materials to support installation teams daily.
- Inventory & Documentation
Keep accurate inventory records.
Perform regular stock counts and resolve discrepancies.
Manage documentation:
Delivery notes
Inspection reports
Material transfer logs
- Health, Safety & Compliance
Enforce OHSA and ISO 45001 safety protocols.
Conduct daily safety inspections.
Oversee PPE compliance, traffic flow, and safe loading/unloading.
- Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with:
Warehouse managers
Site engineers
Transporters
Suppliers and subcontractors
Assist in local labour engagement aligned with BBBEE policies.
- Minimum Requirements:
Matric (Grade 12) – Essential
Technical diploma in Construction, Logistics, or Renewable Energy – Advantageous
5+ years in laydown/logistics supervision for construction or solar projects
Knowledge of:
Material handling
Solar PV component logistics
Inventory control systems
Computer literacy: Microsoft Office, inventory tracking systems
- Skills & Competencies:
Strong organizational and time management
Excellent communication and coordination
Detail-oriented with a focus on safety compliance
Ability to work in remote environments under pressure
Experience with solar farms, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), or renewable energy logistics is a major plus
