This role is ideal for a technically skilled professional who can manage installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex medical and surgical equipment while providing excellent customer support to healthcare clients.
Job Description
The Field Service Engineer will be part of the Bloemfontein service team responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining advanced integrated surgical systems. The role ensures equipment uptime, supports clinical teams in maximising system performance, and fulfils service agreements and warranty commitments.
You will work closely with the Business Development Manager, Business Unit Manager, and Technical/Branch Manager, combining hands-on technical work with customer-facing responsibilities in hospitals and operating theatres.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Services & Maintenance

Install, assess, troubleshoot, and repair integrated surgical systems.

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance according to regulations and standards.

Conduct remote log analysis through specialised engineering tools.

Maintain accurate system configurations and service records.

Follow manufacturer instructions and established procedures to keep equipment operational.
Customer Support & Problem Resolution

Take ownership of customer issues from identification to full resolution.

Assist end-users, sales teams, marketing teams, and clinical implementation teams with technical support.

Deliver customer training and guidance on equipment use.

Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Documentation & Administration

Complete service logs, internal records, and administrative tasks accurately and on time.

Prepare quotations and follow up with clients.

Compile reports by analysing service data and identifying trends.
-
Maintain spare parts inventory, including ordering and managing reverse logistics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work with Sales, Customer Operations, Product Support, and Marketing teams.

Participate in professional development activities (workshops, training, industry events).
Other Responsibilities

Perform standby duties and after-hours work when required.

Manage personal scheduling for upgrades, repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks.
Qualifications & Experience Required
-
National Diploma / N-Dip / B-Tech in Electrical, Electronic, Clinical, or Biomedical Engineering.

3–5 years experience as a Field Service Engineer or Clinical Engineer.

Experience in regulated environments such as medical or pharmaceutical.

Familiarity with operating theatre protocols and hospital environments.

Experience with value-added capital medical equipment (imaging, surgical robotics, radiotherapy, etc.).

Medical industry background in imaging, surgical robotics, or radiation therapy (required).

Strong electronic and software skills, including software updating via engineering interfaces.

Experience working with X-ray equipment (advantageous).

Proficiency in MS Office, including advanced Excel.
