    Bursary Overview

    The Department of Agriculture (DoA) invites applications for its 2026 bursary programme aimed at supporting deserving and previously disadvantaged students from rural and poverty-stricken communities. The bursary is open to South African citizens who are pursuing or intending to pursue qualifications in the agricultural sector. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Fields of Study Covered

    The bursary will only consider applicants in the following disciplines:

    Minimum NSC Requirements: Mathematics & Physical Science: Level 6 (70–79%)

    • BSc Eng. Agricultural (Bioresource) Engineering

    • Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc.)

    Minimum NSC Requirements: Mathematics & Physical Science: Level 5 (60–69%)

    • BSc Agric. Entomology

    • BSc Agric. Food Science

    • BSc Agric. Animal Science

    • BSc Agric. Plant Pathology

    • BSc Agric. Soil Science

    • BSc Agric. Agronomy

    • BSc Agric. Viticulture and Oenology

    Minimum NSC Requirements: Mathematics & Physical Science: Level 4 (50–59%)

    • BAS Food Science and Technology

    • Diploma in Food Technology

    Other:

    • Advanced Diploma in agriculture-related fields

    Bursary Coverage

    The DoA bursary is comprehensive and includes:

    • Full tuition fees

    • Accommodation

    • Meals

    • Prescribed books

    • Monthly allowance

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Must be a South African citizen

    • Must meet the academic requirements for the chosen field of study

    • Must be from a previously disadvantaged, rural, or low-income background

    • Encouraged: Persons with disabilities

    Application Process

    1. Download and complete the bursary application form (Annexure B1) from the official website: www.nda.gov.za (Click on vacancies)

    2. Submit the completed form along with all supporting documents to:
      Externalbursaries@dalrrd.gov.za

    Note:

    • If you do not yet have your university acceptance letter or final results, you may still apply. These documents must be submitted within 3 days after the release of the Grade 12 results in January 2026.

    • Affidavits will not be accepted.

    • No late applications will be considered.

    • Only successful applicants will be contacted within 14 days after the release of matric results.
