Job Overview
The Assistant Manager PHC will provide strategic direction for the district’s HIV/AIDS and TB programme, supporting the implementation of HAST strategies and ensuring that healthcare facilities receive appropriate technical and clinical support.
The position also involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating stakeholders, conducting support visits and audits, analysing programme data and leading health and wellness initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes and encouraging behavioural change.
Key Responsibilities
HAST Programme Management
- Provide strategic direction for the HIV/AIDS and TB (HAST) programme within the district.
- Implement strategies aimed at behavioural change, reducing new infections and improving patient retention in care.
- Implement the HAST programme in accordance with relevant strategic plans.
- Ensure implementation of HAST programmes throughout the district.
- Monitor HAST programme implementation and performance.
- Analyse and manage HIV/AIDS and TB information to strengthen programme implementation.
Clinical and Technical Support
- Provide technical and clinical support to healthcare facilities and stakeholders.
- Undertake clinic and hospital support visits.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with HAST programme requirements.
- Provide guidance to facilities on effective implementation of HAST interventions.
Team and Stakeholder Management
- Manage the HAST multidisciplinary team.
- Coordinate stakeholders involved in HAST programme implementation.
- Promote strong intersectoral collaboration.
- Build effective working relationships with healthcare facilities, stakeholders and community partners.
Health Promotion and Behavioural Change
- Lead health and wellness events designed to influence positive behavioural change.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing HIV/AIDS and TB infections.
- Promote patient retention and continuity of care.
- Contribute to district-wide health promotion and wellness activities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Basic R25 qualification, such as a Diploma/Degree in Nursing or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification of at least one year, accredited by SANC.
- A minimum of 10 years of appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC.
- At least 6 years of the required experience must have been obtained after completing the one-year post-basic nursing qualification.
- At least 3 years of the required experience must be at management level.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Computer literacy.
Additional Skills and Knowledge
The successful candidate should have:
- Training in HIV/AIDS management, including NIMART.
- Extensive experience in the HAST programme.
- Strong management and leadership skills.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Good communication skills.
- Experience in intersectoral collaboration.
- Ability to analyse data and conduct quality assessments.
- Appropriate financial management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet programme objectives.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
- Willingness to work additional hours when required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Professional Nurse with extensive HAST programme experience and strong knowledge of HIV/AIDS and TB management. The successful applicant should be able to lead multidisciplinary teams, analyse programme performance and provide effective technical and clinical support to healthcare facilities across the district.
The role requires a candidate who is comfortable travelling extensively, working with multiple stakeholders and taking a strategic approach to improving health programme outcomes.
