Job Overview
The Deputy Manager Nursing PHC will support the re-engineering of Primary Health Care services across the Mangaung Metro District. The position is responsible for monitoring quality healthcare delivery, implementing key priority programmes, supporting ideal clinic compliance and providing leadership across district health facilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and senior management to promote accessible, compliant and high-quality healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Health Care Management
- Support the re-engineering of Primary Health Care to improve access to quality healthcare services.
- Support and monitor the implementation of assessments, compliance measures and attainment of Ideal Clinic status across facilities in the local areas.
- Monitor the performance of key priority programmes against Annual Performance Plan (APP) and Annual Operational Plan (AOP) targets.
- Manage and monitor key priority programmes within the district.
Quality Improvement and Healthcare Monitoring
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality care across all disciplines.
- Conduct quality improvement audits and surveys.
- Report audit and survey findings to senior management and multidisciplinary health teams.
- Monitor and evaluate the delivery of quality healthcare within district facilities.
- Provide advice on various aspects of quality care across the district.
- Regularly monitor clinical and non-clinical processes to ensure compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
Reporting and Stakeholder Representation
- Provide monthly reports to supervisors and senior management.
- Represent the district at Provincial Quality, Finance and key priority programme forums.
- Monitor the implementation and performance of programmes and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Basic R25 qualification, such as a Diploma/Degree in Nursing or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A minimum of 8 years of appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- At least 3 years of the required experience must be at management level.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Computer literacy.
- Extensive experience in Primary Health Care.

- Grievance procedures.
- Nursing leadership and management.

- Quality improvement and healthcare monitoring.
Strong leadership and financial management skills are required for this position.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Professional Nurse with substantial Primary Health Care experience and proven management-level experience. The successful applicant should demonstrate strong leadership, sound knowledge of healthcare legislation and the ability to coordinate quality improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.
